Well, it's done early, kind of by chance, but we now have the 2015 Competiton Assignments. You can look ahead and see what is coming up and start shooting to fit assignments. A thank you to Tina and Jim C who thought up quite a few categories, and to club members who submitted ideas during our club meeting. See below:
January - Picture of the Year Competition (No Assignment) 1. February - Rust 2. March Candlelight 3. April - Wildlife (not domesticated) 4. May - Cityscapes 5. June - Movie, song, or show title. 6. July - Out of your comfort zone 7. August - Escape (photographer's interpretation of escape. For example, the beach) 8. September - Musical Instruments 9. October - Bridges (any structural parts also) 10. November - Abstract 11. December - Clocks Yesterday 6 of our members went to the Gilmore Museum. We had a great time together, stopping for donuts and coffee in the morning, shooting antique cars, eating lunch in the 50's diner, and more shooting. As if the day wasn't great already, we stopped at Norman's Camera, and then dinner at Bilbo's for pizza. On the way home we saw a bunch of hot air balloons in the sky coming in for a landing. We decided to literally chase the balloons and get some pictures. We were successful following them to a park for some great shots and also the Jackson Cascades. After that, to the Parlour for old fashioned ice cream before our drive home. Good times peeps! It was a 15 hour day for us! Here are a few of the pics I took of some members that day. Claudia
The following is a slide show of the 2014 International Competition between the Southgate Photographic Society, London, GB and the Creative Camera Club, Southgate, Mi. Kaz I brought up at the meeting last night that I ran into Alanna (who came to our club with Mark Byrnes) at the Wyandotte Street Fair. She was selling her photography and it was pretty impressive. We discussed her coming and doing a little seminar for our club on her HDR photography. As discussed in the meeting last night, I am going to see if she is free for our September workshop. August workshop will be a workshop with Jeff Thomas, who was kind enough to judge our pictures for the London Competition. Anyway, Alanna also works with Mark Byrnes on the Thunder Bay trip, which I have heard many members say was awesome in the past and thought there might be some interest. Below is the link where you can get information on this trip.
http://www.meetup.com/Discover-Your-World-Photography-Workshops-Tours/events/183338622/ I will let you know as soon as I get word, if Alanna is free to do a seminar for September. The outing for August is a tour of Michigan Stadium. The cost is $15/head. The tour time is 10:00 AM. The tour lasts for 60-90 minutes. Maximum number of people is 40. Since there is a limit of 40, please don't invite all your friends and relatives. They don't mention handicap access, so it's entirely possible you may have to climb a lot of stairs. The tour goes down to the field, and part of the experience is walking down the steps. And what goes down has to go back up. I need a head count and your preferred dates. The dates that seem most practical are: - Monday Aug 11 - Friday Aug 15 - Monday Aug 18 - Friday Aug 22 I'll have a sign up sheet for tonight's meeting. But you can also sign up here or on the club web site by leaving a comment. I need the following: - Your name - Number of people - Your preferred dates in order of preference or any. If you aren't on the list you won't be going. Money will be due on Aug 5th at the club meeting, since we have to write a check.
Open the file attached to get all the details of the trip this month to Gilmore Car Museum. And since I know Claudia will ask, meet up time is 8:00 AM this Saturday 7/19.
We discussed the next fieldtrip, which was the Mudhens, and there was not much interest. So we decided to go to the Gilmore Museum on July 19. The information and details are below in Bob's blog entry. Meet up is at 8:00 at Sears. Jim Crapko is slowly being phased into Pat's job as competition organizer and being Vanna. Pat has a lot on her plate right now and wants to pass on the job, and Jim thankfully volunteered. Pat will start with next competition showing Jim the ropes, so starting in August for competition, please now send your photos to Jim Crapko - jcrapko@comcast.net and continue sending also to Jim Hollandsworth. The July workshop will be a special one. Dave will be showing the DVD of the international competition between Southgate Creative Camera Club of Southgate, MI and the Southgate Photographic Society of London, England. This competition will consist of 30 images from each club, including scores and commentary from the U.S and British judges. It's always interesting to see other clubs' pictures and how they edit and compose their shots. I hope we have a good turnout that night to view this slideshow and discuss everyone's views on the comments and scores. A big night with big fun! For those of you that weren't at the meeting last night. We had an impromptu vote on going to the Mud Hens game in Toledo. Needless to say the group overwhelmingly decided that a night out of being social and taking pictures wasn't appealing. Sorry, couldn't resist the jibe :)
So the consensus was to replace it with a trip to Gilmore Car Museum near Kalamzoo. That was scheduled for later in the year, but we can do it now. Here is the link to the museum. Admission is $10, you can save a bit with a AAA card. The date for the trip is July 19th. I unfortunately probably won't be able to go, I have a graduation party to go to that day, and the following weekend I have a concert. Last time we were there, we were there until about 3:00 PM. There is a diner on site that we can get lunch at, the food was a bit limited, but good. I'll warn you now there is a lot of walking, but there are a few places to sit, and it appeared that most of the buildings were handicap accessible. Tripods weren't an issue, and since most of the shooting is indoor I would recommend bringing one. Plan is as follows: - Meet at Sears in Lincoln Part at 8:00 AM. The museum opens at 9:00, so we could leave earlier if we get a consensus on that. - There will be a coffee and donut stop at Sweetwater's donuts (voted one of the best dozen donuts shops in the country). - Travel to Gilmore Car Museum - Optional - Bilbos Pizza in Kalamazoo. It's about 30 minutes, unfortunately in the wrong direction. But they have VERY good pizza. For those of you that weren't at the meeting last night.
